Saint Baldrick's Foundation: Dr. Lombard's Research

Because of your support, we are able to fund leading researchers as they work to find better treatments and cures for pediatric cancer.

Through our partnership with St. Baldrick’s Foundation, we have the honor of funding Dr. Lombard as he researches cures for Ewing Sarcoma. We are truly excited to see what comes of this groundbreaking research and how it will change the story for so many children battling cancer.

Here’s what Dr. Lombard shared with us about his research:

“Thanks to the generous support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Love Your Melon, we are attempting to devise new cures for Ewing Sarcoma (EWS). EWS is a very aggressive cancer that usually forms in the bones of children or young adults. Fortunately, most patients with EWS can be cured with current treatments. However, if the cancer spreads to other parts of the body, cure is very difficult. In addition, current drugs that are used to cure EWS can cause life-long damage to normal tissues and organs. For these reasons, we really need to develop better ways to treat EWS.

Support of organizations like the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Love Your Melon is absolutely vital to progress in medicine, to support the next generation of cures. Virtually every treatment used clinically today – for pediatric cancer like EWS, and for most other diseases – began with an idea based on insights from basic laboratory science. We are very hopeful that this work will eventually lead to better treatments for patients with this terrible cancer.”
