September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
More children are lost to pediatric cancer in the U.S. than any other disease. In fact, every year, more than 15,000 children receive a cancer diagnosis.
Pediatric cancer is a devastating disease, and there are many obstacles facing treatment for these children. Some of these obstacles include a critical lack of funding compared to adult research as well as the many legal and financial difficulties of academic cancer research progressing into actual clinical trials.
This is why Love Your Melon is dedicated to joining the story and making a difference in the lives of these children. We strive to spread awareness, support innovative research and provide direct support to families enduring treatment for pediatric cancer.
You can join the story, too. Here are some important ways you can get involved in Childhood Cancer Awareness this month.
- The ribbon color for childhood cancer is gold. In honor of this, we just brought back some of the most popular Gold Foil Beanies along with some brand new colors! Purchase your own Gold Foil Beanie in support of children battling cancer around the country.
- Wear gold this month to spread awareness for childhood cancer. Talk to your family, friends, coworkers and other peers about what they can do to get involved by spreading childhood cancer awareness, funding cancer research and supporting children and their families.
- Check out our amazing nonprofit partners who are leading the fight against pediatric cancer. Fifty percent of our profit is given to these nonprofit partners, and we carefully chose these incredible organizations because they are committed to funding top-notch cancer research and providing support programs for children and families. We encourage you to donate to these organizations directly at their respective websites.
- Support your family and friends who are experiencing the difficulties of cancer treatment. If you know of a child who has received a cancer diagnosis, offer a word of encouragement or ask how you can best support his or her family. Often, even seemingly small acts of kindness and support are extremely meaningful to families in the midst of treatment.
Thank you for supporting the fight against pediatric cancer and spreading awareness - in September and all year long! Together, we will continue making a difference in the lives of children battling cancer.
